Systems originally designed for F-gases require certification when working.

Hydrocarbon-based refrigerants are flammable and must be leak tested with an electronic hydrocarbon leak tester, fluorescent tracer or soap bubbles. If leakage is detected during filling, the space must be ventilated immediately, avoiding open flames, and the leak repaired. After the repair, the system must be leak tested again.
